WangFuJing is probably the most western part of Beijing. Shopping malls as far as the eye can see, huge plasma-screen billboards, restaurants and food stands, most of them are in the pedestrian only zone. If you like shopping, you will like WangFuJing. The only problem is that it's practically western area and that goes for the prices too which makes it the most expensive place in Beijing to go shopping at. Personally, I like the atmosphere in WangFuJing, when you walk there at night it feels like you are in a future-cyber-punk Manga movie: it's dark, many people wear trench coats, big plasma screen, Chinese announcements and advertisements, no cars (imagine they are hovering above you?), you get the picture. Food is not going to be a problem while you are at WangFuJing. There are food courts in every mall, foods stands, and really big McDonald’s and KFC. You should also check out the food market at the north end of the street (you are walking north if you are waking away from the Subway and the clock tower is to your left). There is some pretty disgusting stuff for the brave of you to try. WangFuJing is also known for two gigantic bookstores located there: “WangFuJing Bookstore” and “Beijing Foreign Languages Bookstore”. The students among all will probably find this store more useful and interesting. If you can't find the books you need in those two stores, XiDan Bookstore is bigger them both and most likely to have what you are looking for. |
